And so it begins…
The fabric for my quilt in the All Minnesota Shop Hop magazine arrived on Saturday. I worked at the Creamery so I didn’t have much time to play with the fabric, all I did was measure it. I like to know exactly, down to the quarter inch, how much fabric I start with, to make sure my yardage requirements are correct.
As you can see, some of the fabrics are directional prints, which will be cut as triangles and I want them to all be the same direction in the quilt. There are different ways to do this.
You can cut the squares in opposite directions:
Or you can leave the fabric strip as you cut it from the fabric.
Then cut the square diagonally.
When you turn the triangles right side up…
…they will be the same direction.
This was a bit of a duh moment for me. I think in the past I would layer them all right side up in two stacks, and cut one stack upper left to lower right, and the other stack lower left to upper right. This is so much simpler–AS LONG AS THE SQUARES ARE WRONG SIDES TOGETHER!!!.
Now it’s time to get back to work!
