A finish – as yet unnamed
I’ve been working on patterns for two small quilts.
Yesterday I finished quilting and binding one. Linda at the Old Creamery Quilt Shop told me I should teach a class using a Studio 180 ruler. Since I love those rulers, I immediately agreed. I looked through my EQ files and found several that could use one or another of the rulers. A couple of them I have sewn, and those that I haven’t, I took pics of on my laptop screen. After showing them to her, we picked out one. I had it done in blues, whites, yellows, using fabrics from the EQ Fabric Library. We couldn’t find exactly those colors, but did find some close. I brought the bolts home with me last week, and last Friday I started working on it. Since I wasn’t sure how much fabric I needed, I marked off a yard, cut what I needed and calculated the amount I used when done.
I did a lot of quilting on it. I put the free motion foot on, thinking I would be doing some free motion. I did mostly straight lines, and I could have just as well used the walking foot. I did free motion in the center of a few of the blocks. I didn’t see it until I was done that I missed a section of one — there should be something headed to the 9 o’clock position.
And I forgot to put the free motion foot back and do it before I washed and dried the quilt…I’m sure it will wait for me! This quilting design is one I learned fro Leah Day, although she might not want to be connected to my quilting! The rest is based on Angela Walters Dot-to-Dot quilting. This is her Craftsy class I purchased.
Since I’m not done with the pattern yet, I’m only going to show you the quilting on the back. This is close to the color of the fabric, the rest of the pictures I edited so the quilting lines would show up better. These were done with the free motion foot: I had matched the thread to the fabric color when I did some stitch-in-the-ditch. I didn’t want the light green bobbin thread to show on the front so I used dark brown for some of it.
Here I had switched to the walking foot. The lines are a bit straighter.
As soon as I finish up on the pattern I will show you the “pretty side”!!
Thanks for looking!
