I need an incentive…
I saw this on a quilt designers group, and decided to take the challenge by Cheryl Sleboda of Muppin.com. I know that I should be posting more often, but I don’t know what to write about, I don’t have time, whine, whine, whine. Hopefully this will get me going in the right direction.
I’ve been sewing a bit. Not as much as I like to be. We moved in July, and the only place for my sewing room is in the basement. There were 2 small finished rooms. I knew as soon as I saw them that I would take out the wall between the two, and have a wonderful sewing space.
Now after 4 months I am IN my sewing room, but it’s far from finished. I’m just glad to have the space to sew.
This is where I WAS set up, it looks more roomy that it actually was.
To get to the “design wall” 2 feet in front of the machine, I had to come out between the table and my sewing cabinet, squeeze around the post and my printer cabinet (put there after this picture was taken), past the tote in front of the sewing machine but not visible. To the left of the sewing cabinet I had the ironing board set up, so going that way was not an option.
This is a continuous shot after taking out the wall dividing the space into 2 rooms. The white/green post to the right of the doorway at the left of the picture is where the wall was, and the post will remain. (The walls aren’t curved as they appear!)
The room was very dark with the dark paneling, but I painted a peachy color, and what a difference it made!
I had first gone over the paneling with white paint hoping it would be enough. It wasn’t. I probably should have put on a second coat of the peach, but with my cabinets, pegboards, shelves, and whatever else is going to be hung on the walls, there won’t be much showing anyway.
Then it was the floor. What an ordeal! We were going to paint using the epoxy paint for concrete. The concrete isn’t in good shape. We considered putting in treated lumber. There had been 1×4’s with plywood over, but all that had to be taken out. It was not treated lumber, and there was water damage. We didn’t want to take on getting all that lumber downstairs. The old stuff we cut up and took out through the small basement windows.
We decided on vinyl planking, which turned out to be another set of problems. I watched a few youtube videos. No problem. I got this. Should be able to get in done in a couple of days.
There were tears, frustration, arguments. But we finally got it in (I won’t say how, I don’t want to get yelled at for doing it wrong). Had we started out how we ended up doing it, it WOULD have been done in a couple of days, and a month sooner.
As soon I get more photos transferred from my phone, I’ll show you more!
looking forward to following along during the challenge
