Beams #3

Since the “waste triangles” from the second Beams quilt I sewed failed to give the results I wanted to emphasize, I decided to make another.  For this one I decided to use Christmas fabrics.  I searched through my stash.  I have all that lovely cardinal and poinsettia fabric with the gold accents.  Unfortunately, I was afraid I’d end up with the same not-enough-contrast results.

Ok.  How about a fall theme.  I even cut two Center Beams and sewed the waste triangles together.  Yup, those contrast.  But it’s boring.  I dug around found some orang-ish fabric to give it a little pop, but I still wasn’t excited about it. On to more digging.

I stumbled on some fabric leftover from two quilts I did several years ago. I had used a stripe for the backing on one of them. Hmmm, I wonder how that would look for a Center Beam?? And lots of contrast with the other Center Beam fabric. That’ll do it!

At the top is the striped Center Beam with the light background Side Triangles. Below that are the waste triangles from both Center Beam fabrics. That will be great for using in the border.

Now I must get back to sewing, for tomorrow I need to start my next Island Batik project.
